Helping individuals Live, Learn and Earn in our community

The Geauga County Board of Developmental Disabilities, known as The Bessie Benner Metzenbaum Center, was founded in 1966 to provide services and supports to individuals in Geauga County who have developmental and intellectual disabilities. Today, our main priority is still enhancing individuals’ lives through our services. These services begin at birth, continue with preschool and school programs and last through adulthood. Services including Early Intervention Programs, Adult Services, Case Management, an Intermediate Care Facility and Transportation services help make Metzenbaum a wonderful community of caring individuals. The Metzenbaum Center currently supports more than 850 individuals and their families in Geauga County by helping them live, learn and earn in our community.

The Metzenbaum Center provides services for local children from birth to adulthood, including Early Intervention and integration into the Geauga County schools.

Residential services from the Metzenbaum Center include our Intermediate Care Facility (ICF) and community homes for individuals to live more independently.

The Metzenbaum Center currently works with four private providers to offer transportation services to individuals with developmental disabilities throughout Geauga County.
