Play Learn and Grow Playgroups

Play, Learn, and Grow
Vision: All children will learn, grow and develop to realize their full potential.
Geauga County Board of Developmental Disabilities will soon be offering community playgroups for children 18 months to three years old. Play, Learn, and Grow playgroups are designed to provide opportunities for social development and growth. Activities will focus on the developmental needs of children birth to three years of age and will incorporate best practice concepts. All areas of development – cognitive, language, social, emotional, self help, and motor– are integrated as the child interacts with the learning environment.
Play remains the primary way in which learning occurs in the early years. Through play, children discover concepts and relationships and practice newly acquired skills, including negotiation and conflict resolution, social conversation, and role taking. Play is development in action. In play, children demonstrate their understanding of the world and their role in it.
A snack activity gives the early intervention staff an opportunity to observe and assist in developing your child’s self help and communication skills.
Parents who enroll their children in a playgroup are asked to send in a nutritious snack with a drink in a snack bag/box labeled with your child’s name. Due to the increased number of children who have peanut allergies we are a “peanut free” environment. Please do not send snacks that contain any peanut products.
Playgroups will begin the week of November 2, 2009 and will be held at Metzenbaum School in Chesterland and at DDC Clinic in Middlefield. Families may register for 8 week sessions on a first come – first serve basis. There will be a fee of $50.00 for each 8 week session for those families not enrolled in Part C services.
Please call Cathy Yane at 440-729-0026 x1317 for registration and additional information.
