Rec/Leisure

Recreation & Leisure
The Department is divided up into three different programs: Recreation/Leisure, Special Olympics, and Summer Recreation Program. Each program offers a variety of activities for all age groups. A summary of each program is listed below.
Recreation/Leisure
Through the Recreation/Leisure Program individuals have the opportunity to participate in in-house, community integration and overnight activities. Program participants are ages 22 and older and receive services through the Metzenbaum Center Adult Services program, as well as Community Support Services.
Activities are held on weekdays, weekday evenings and on weekends. Participants may also join such clubs as the Dinner Club, the Friday Fun Day Club or the After Work Swim Party Club.
Summer Recreation Program
The Summer Recreation Program is a five week camp that runs Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday for school age children ages 6-22. All Classes have one group leader and two-to-three assistants, with no more than eight students per class. In order to be eligible, students must complete the Intake and Eligibility process through Community Support Services.
Throughout the course of the camp, a nurse, lifeguard and Music Therapist are present daily. Every week campers experience music, sports, swimming, and arts and crafts, as well as many fun whole-camp activities, such as the 4th of July picnic, volleyball tournament, Carnival, international food day and scavenger hunts, just to name a few.
Overnight experiences
Participants in this program have a number of choices for overnight experiences, such as camping, sightseeing and holiday activities, among other activities. To be eligible for this program, participants must:
