Adult Services

The Geauga County Board of Developmental Disabilities, also known as the Metzenbaum Center, offers a full range of programs and services for Geauga County adults with developmental disabilities throughout their lives. The Metzenbaum Center’s Adult Services Department strives to assist these individuals in reaching their own greatest levels of independence and productivity, as well as facilitating their participation in their community.

Community Employment Program

The Metzenbaum Center’s Community Employment Program assists eligible Geauga County adults with developmental disabilities in obtaining jobs in their community.  The Community Employment program enables individuals with developmental disabilities opportunities to lead lives enriched by meaningful, productive employment, while contributing to their own financial stability.

Supported Employment

Through the Metzenbaum Center’s Supported Employment Program, a group of Geauga County adults with developmental disabilities perform job tasks at a community site under the supervision of a Metzenbaum Center staff member.

Sheltered Workshop

The Sheltered Workshop  provides vocational training and paid employment opportunities to Geauga County adults with developmental disabilities.  Individuals are employed by Metzenbaum Sheltered Industries, Inc., or MSI, Inc., which subcontracts services to local businesses and industries.  These companies receive quality work at a competitive price, and individuals with developmental disabilities have opportunities to develop vocational and social skills, while earning a paycheck.

 Enrichment Program

For those individuals who are limited in their ability to work, the Metzenbaum Center offers an Enrichment Program.  The Enrichment program provides Geauga County adults with developmental disabilities opportunities to participate in important health and wellness, community integration and recreation-leisure activities.

Seniors Program

For individuals age 50 or older, the Metzenbaum Center offers a Retirement/Senior Program in collaboration with the West Geauga Senior Program in Chesterland, Ohio.  The joint program enables seniors with developmental disabilities to engage in important socialization and physical activities with non-disabled seniors.

Additional Program Services

The Metzenbaum Center also provides nursing, social work, physical therapy and psychology services through the Adult Services Department.
